Therapeutic Services for Children, Adolescents, and Adults

At CNP we provide evidence-based therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults. We use a cognitive-behavioral approach in therapy in order to treat psychological distress and/or teach effective means for managing emotions. Therapeutic interventions are useful in addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and anger difficulties. We consider each of our patient’s needs and environment in developing a comprehensive treatment plan.

  • Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is the most common form of treatment for emotional distress. While the patient is our focus of treatment, we involve family members on an as needed basis. This is especially true when we work with children. Also, regular updates are provided to parents and input is sought regarding the patient’s progress outside of the therapy setting so that any needed changes can be made in the treatment plan.

  • Play Therapy

Play therapy is different from regular play in that the therapist helps children to address and resolve their own problems through their play. Young children often are developmentally not ready for traditional talk therapy. Therefore, play therapy can be used alternatively to help young children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others.

  • Behavior Modification

Behavior Modification techniques are used to specifically address problematic behavior and increase desirable behaviors. Unwanted behaviors arise due to a variety of reasons including but not limited to emotional distress, family conflicts, cognitive difficulties, and environmental stressors. The goal of behavior modification is to manage behavior. Therefore, it is often used in conjunction with other interventions such as academic accommodations, individual therapy, family therapy – just to name a few.

  • Parent Coaching

Often times, we as parents get “stuck” in our parenting style and while one style may work with one child it may not work as effectively with another. Parent coaching is essential assisting parents in “thinking out of the box” to develop effective parenting techniques in order to promote positive behaviors and healthy family relationships. When assisting parents we keep in mind the overall family dynamics, practical limitations such as work schedules, and the inherent strengths of the family members.

  • Family Therapy

When we work with families through family therapy, we recognize that each member of the family is in therapy for an important reason. Therefore, we utilize therapeutic techniques that are evidence based to promote healthy family relationships between all participants, and not single out any one member as being problematic.

  • Social Skills Training

The need for social skills training can be may at various levels. At CNP we first assess the individual’s baseline of social maturity and functioning. We then develop a systematic treatment plan to increase their social skills at a pace at which they are comfortable.
